17. TOEFL happens with AI whereas IELTS happens with actual human examiner, more similar to interview. Both tests only the language proficiency. IELTS exam duration is much shorter than TOEFL. TOEFL is widely accepted in American countries whereas IELTS is mostly for European countries.
